Professor Jane Carr, Judan

Professor Jane Carr led the Redding Jujitsu Academy for more than four decades as its Shihan. Over a martial arts and healing arts career spanning six decades, she rose to the rank of Judan (10th degree black belt), the highest rank held in the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation. Jane also helped build the Federation's healing arts program as a founding member of its Standards Committee. She continued teaching monthly black belt classes almost until her passing in March 2022, training generations of black belts and shaping RJA into the school it is today, now carried on by her daughter, Professor Sheryl Hager.

Professor Sheryl Hager, Hachidan

Professor Sheryl Hager, has been a student of Danzan Ryu for 59 years, beginning her training with her mother and father, Jim and Jane Dean, in May 1966 at the Redding Jujitsu Academy and was awarded her black belt at the age of 17. In 2022 Prof Hager was awarded the rank of 8th degree black belt and continues to teach seminars nation wide. Prof Hager has studied a wide range of other martial arts including: Parker’s Kenpo, Tai Chi, and Shotokan Karate. She formed the Hale O Lima Kokua Martial Arts Center in Sacramento in 1984 and continues to instruct special classes in the Sacramento area. After moving back to Redding Ca. Prof. Hager became school head of the Redding JuJitsu academy Inc. in 1997. Prof. Hager is a Certified Massage Therapist in the art of Seifukujitsu, (Japanese healing arts) has served as an assistant instructor for the AJJF Massage Program and is co administrator of internal relations for the American judo and JuJitsu federation and is also presently the secretary of the board of professors for the American Judo and JuJitsu Federation. Prof. Hager has taught empowering seminars in women's awareness & Defence through Kaiser Permanente and W.E.A.V.E. in the Sacramento and Redding area.

Rokudan

Professor Scott Redden trained under Professor Jane Carr, earning his Shodan and rising through the ranks to be promoted to Rokudan (6th degree black belt) on March 14, 2015. He was named Professor by the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation, and completed Module 1 of the Federation's Danzan Ryu Restorative Therapy healing arts program in 1995. Beyond his years teaching at RJA, at AJJF clinics, and at National Conventions, he has served the Federation's Operations Committee as Chair of Clinics and Contests and completed a fourteen-year term on the AJJF Council of Senior Instructors — where he helped create the Demonstration Competition Rules and update the Sensei Manual originally written by Professor Carr.
